Petersons Honored at CUE Center National Missing Persons Conference

The CUE Center for Missing Persons recently held its National Missing Persons Conference in Wilmington, NC, bringing together families, advocates, and experts dedicated to finding the missing and supporting those left behind. Among the distinguished guests was Norma Peterson, Executive Director of Document The Abuse, who not only spoke at the event but was also honored alongside her husband, Paul Peterson, for their contributions.

Norma took the stage as a guest speaker, sharing her insights in a session titled My Missing Person: What I Wish I Had Known. Drawing from personal experience, she offered valuable perspectives on the challenges faced by families searching for missing loved ones and the crucial tools available to help navigate these difficult situations. Her expertise and empathy resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom are seeking answers and support.

Adding to the event’s significance, Norma and Paul Peterson were both recognized with prestigious awards for their dedication to the mission of CUE. Together, they received the Keeper of the Flame award, a testament to their unwavering commitment to raising awareness and supporting those affected by missing persons cases. Paul was also the recipient of the Passage Award in honor of the late Susan Murphy Milano, a pioneer in victim advocacy whose legacy continues to inspire those working in the field of domestic violence.

“Each year the Passage Award, in honor of the work of Susan Murphy Milano, is given to an individual who has suffered the loss of a loved one as a missing person, a victim of homicide, or a survivor of the cruelties of intimate partner violence. This year's recipient is Paul Peterson, husband of Norma Peterson, who has risen above all three. He contributes and supports, empowers and guides those in need.”

The Petersons have been actively involved with the CUE Center for Missing Persons for several years, serving as Illinois State Outreach Directors. Their ongoing efforts help connect families in crisis with resources, training, and community support, reinforcing CUE

The conference was a powerful gathering, bringing together voices of experience, hope, and determination. Norma and Paul’s recognition underscores the impact of their work and their steadfast dedication to making a difference in the lives of those affected by domestic violence and missing persons cases.

Congratulations to Norma and Paul Peterson on these well-deserved honors!
